She was the best companion, just talking to me and really alert to everything going on around the house. If we found some interesting food she would really want a taste so I would give her little nibbles.
Yes it was all fun and games. I was stroking her feathers and then ruffling them back and she loved that too. But we went into one of the back bedrooms and there on the bed sort of tucked in like she was sleeping was the little green parrot I owned back in Palm Desert.
That Parrot had a name that I can't remember but I do remember that the early interest and affection for the little green parrot wore off and eventually turned into weariness with the noisy mean demanding little green parrot. I eventually gave her away to a guy who loved her so much that he built her a huge cage and then took her out of that cage and for drives in the car so she could feel the wind blowing past her and see things flying by.
Perhaps parrots should never be kept as pets. They are wild animals and have complex social needs that are best met by other parrots. It's a form of slavery and African Grey parrots are probably the smartest of all parrots and so they probably suffer more.
So as I looked at the little green parrot in the bed I felt ashamed for how I had treated her and I didn't want the African Grey parrot to see what I had done.
