Pizza and Beer Dream

I get off work and its been a tough day. Some others come back to my sterile hotel room and we are waiting for the rest of the group. We are hungry and one of them says, "I hear they have good pizza around here, lets get pizza and beer."

I am up for that and we all agree so we start the pizza ordering ceremony: what do you like on your pizza, how many slices do you want? And what's the number, all that.

Then someone comes from the front desk to the door to tell me I have a phone call. I follow them up to the front desk and its someone from work. They heard that one of the administrators is quitting and they want me to help them with a form applying for the soon to be ex-administrator's housing.

They are having trouble with one of the boxes and I start to suspect that the form they are using has degraded from being printed out and copied so I tell them to go to fedconnect.gov and download the form again.

Finally, I get off the phone and go back to the room (I have been wandering all over the halls and parking lot with the cell phone pressed to my ear trying to hear them over the freeway noise from the freeway that runs next to the hotel.) Everyone is waiting, impatiently for me, so we get up and go right away. It's a good group and includes my daughter-in-law, husband, and people from work.

We are walking down the left side of a very long empty street. Its an early spring evening, warm and the light is diffuse and golden. Sometimes people on bikes or skate boards pass us very quickly. Sometimes we get right off the side walk because they are going so fast. I remember one was a very muscular young woman towing her skateboard riding friend at a fast pace.

I had been moving fast too and got ahead of everyone so I slowed down and waited. Soon two of my group came up red faced and puffing. So we walked more slowly and finally reached the town and went into a bar.

I think we are stopping for a drink and we find it's pretty empty inside. We get a drink and move over to sit at a large grouping of chairs and tables. My companion sits in the middle of a group of empty chairs then spreads her legs and arms out to cover as many of them as possible to save them for our group. But oh no, there is a much bigger crowd now and they are pushing up to our saved space and then a fierce little girl walked over and tried to take one of the chairs my friend was saving.

I went to help and the fierce girl grabbed my hand and tried to pry it away from the chair by digging in with her finger nails. Shocking! So I took my companion and we went across the room to a recently vacated table with low stools and chairs around it and sat there instead. There were still plates and dirty cutlery on the table so I started straightening up when some more people from our group arrived. I was surprised to see my boss was there, with red hair, and then my sons and their friends showed up. My sons looked all of ten and had hairless chests bared. I think they wanted some of the pizza we still hadn't picked up. Oh that pizza order was waiting a long time and I woke up worrying about whether they might have thrown the pizza away or not.
